Sediment deposition, biological accumulation and subcellular distribution of barium following the drilling of an exploratory well
Abstract
From the Abstract: “In the Santa Barbara Channel significant increases in the accumulation of Ba were found in sediments down current from the well site after drilling. Significant increases in the bioaccumulation of Ba were also observed in 2 of the 3 species examined, Cyclocardia ventricosa and Pectinaria californiensis. Although significant bioaccumulation of Ba occurs in some species immediately down current from the well, most of it remains in an insoluble form, presumably as BaSO4.”
