Environmental monitoring of trace elements in water discharges from oil production platforms
Abstract
From the Conclusions: “An extensive data base is now established on which to base the assessment of environmentally sensitive elements in water discharges from Shell Expro oil production and drilling platforms. The concentration of these elements in the water discharges is low. In particular, they are below the levels which would present a hazard to the environment. Notably the concentrations of the ‘black-listed’ elements mercury and cadmium are substantially below the levels which are known to produce acute toxicity in marine species.”
