Environmental Effects of Offshore Oil Production The Buccaneer Gas and Oil Field Study
Abstract
From Conclusions: This study examined the biocide components of the produced water discharge from production platforms in the Buccaneer Field, located 50.5 km south of Galveston, Texas. “We have no data concerning the concentrations of K-31, KC-14, or Surfatron DQ44 in the discharges during the first two years of our study. When acrolein was being used later in the study, we found none of this substance (detection limit, 100 ppb) in produced water samples after they had been returned to the laboratory. It is possible that any acrolein which might have been present in the discharges became hydrolyzed prior to analysis.”
