Oil rigs and offshore sport fishing in Louisiana

Dugas, R., V. Guillory, and M. Fischer

Abstract

This papers summarizes the role that oil and gas platforms play as locations for recreational angling off Louisiana. It gives details of a study conducted on what fishes were taken in the charter vessel platform fishery off Grand Isle, Louisiana, from December 1977 to November 1978. The most frequently taken species were Atlantic croaker (Micropogon undulates), silver seatrout (Cynoscion nothus), red snapper (Lujanus campechanus), king mackerel (Scomberomorous maculatus) and blacktip shark (Carcharhinus limbatus). Species caught varied with season and between platforms.
