From the Abstract: “This report provides an overview of four years (1976–1980) of trace metal investigations conducted as a part of a larger multidisciplinary, marine, environmental assessment program of the Buccaneer gas and oil field.
From the Abstract: “In 1978 and 1979, a multidisciplinary study of the effects of offshore petroleum production platforms on the marine environment was funded through the Bureau of Land Management and done by Southwest Research Institute.
From the Abstract: “Drilling mud and associated drill cuttings are the largest volume wastes associated with drilling of oil and gas wells and often are discharged to the ocean from offshore drilling platforms.
From the Conclusions: “Utilizing the criteria set forth by the Academy and the data reported here, we do not predict a risk of chronic biological effects due to the metals zinc, lead, or cadmium originating from oil production platforms.”
