Platform reef ecological and biological productivity: fact or fiction

Dokken, Q. R.

Abstract

Conclusions: “By virtue of the fouling community, platform artificial reefs do contribute to the overall biomass and ecological productivity of the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. Additional study is required to answer some of the fundamental questions as to the dynamics and impacts of platform artificial reefs upon the target species and the overall ecosystem.”
