Marine algae fouling offshore structures in the North Sea

Abstract

Algal communities are structured by depth on North Sea platforms. Enteromorpha dominates in the intertidal while below that, to about 30 m, various algae such as Laminaria spp., Desmarestia viridis, and red calcareous encrusting species are most important.
