Fish distribution studies around offshore installations

Olsen, S. and J. W. Valdemarsen

Abstract

This document reports on a pilot study aimed at catching and quantifying fishes around production platform off Norway. Traps and several kinds of hook-and-line techniques were employed at different distances from the structure. A few ling (Molva molva) were caught in the traps and catches were not related to distance from the platform. On the other hand, cod (Gadus morhua) catches via jigging did reflect distance from platforms – catches were highest near the platform.
