Effects of produced water on settlement of larvae:

field tests using red abalone

Raimondi, P. T. and R. J. Schmitt

Abstract

From the Discussion: “Data presented here reveal that the chronic discharge of produced water into an open cost environment can have biologically meaningful effects on plankton larvae. Exposures of red abalone larvae to a plume of produced water in the field reduced the probability that a larva would successfully complete the transition to the adult body form.”
